Effective Business Writing—a one-day workshop

A six-hour workshop that can be conducted in one day or two consecutive half-days, this program identifies the main barriers to communication in business writing and provides guidlines and techniques to eliminate them.

Workshop Outline

  • Brief writing exercise, held for later discussion
  • Word choice, sentence and paragraph structure
  • Writing as a tool to communicate a message
  • Review of earlier writing exercise
  • Letters and memos OR report writing—client choice
  • Punctuation Without Tears
  • What's the difference?—commonly confused words
  • Group editing, using participants' writing samples brought
    for the purpose

Follow-up

  • Series of email from Helen to each individual participant
  • Every three months for one year after the workshop
  • Each focuses on one learning point from the workshop
  • Designed to help them incorporate the new learning into their everyday writing habits
